2016 GIRO D'ITALIA LEADER JERSEYS

Cadel Evans Autralia

Each of the Giro d'Italia Leader Jerseys were designed to provide maximum performance and comfort for the athletes that will wear them at this years Grand Tour. Our product and design team worked painstakingly, drawing on Santini's 50 years of experience, to produce a garment fit for a Champion.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

-The material used for the back and sleeves is Body Fit, which is extremely light and strong with a weight of 90g per square meter. By using Body Fit we were able to create not only an exceptionally light jersey, but also an aerodynamic fit highlighted by the raw cut elongated sleeves.

-The front of the garment is perforated Rudy fabric that is significantly less elastic than Body Fit, the ‘Rudy’ fabric guarantees breathability while maintaining the cut necessary for the rider. Riding position requires significant elasticity in the back and less in the front to avoid creases that cause drag.

-The cut of the collar is inspired by aerodynamic skinsuit design, the petal form alleviates discomfort caused by the zipper coming in contact with the neck. Elastic silicone grip at the bottom to maintain jersey position.

MAGLIA NERA COLLECTION

La “Maglia Nera” was a black jersey awarded as a symbolic prize at the Giro (between 1946 and 1951) awarded to the rider to finish dead last in the race.

Ironically there was real competition to win this particular jersey. There were legendary struggles to see who could waste the most time and capture the jersey. Each rider employed tactics such as hiding in bars, barns, and behind hedges, or even by puncturing their own tires in order take home the legendary jersey.

The Maglia Nera collection includes an array of products from the short and long sleeve jerseys, to the bib shorts, cap, socks, as well as musette. Own a piece of Giro history and take home one of the items from the Maglia Nera collection.

GIRO STAGES COLLECTION

Introducing the 2016 Santini Giro d'Italia Stage Line. The Santini Giro d’Italia Stage Line represents a series of apparel designed and created to highlight a number of specifically chosen unique stages included in the 2016 edition of the CORSA ROSA. The fundamental concept behind each item was to draw on elements, themes, and motifs that promote the history of the race, of cycling, and the geographical areas linked to those specific stages.

GELDERLAND STAGE JERSEY

The 2016 Giro d’Italia will start in the Netherlands, with the central province of Gelderland hosting the Grande Partenza and the three opening stages of the Italian Grand Tour: Apeldoorn, Nijmegen and Arnhem. Elements featured in the design include a subtle reference to the symbolic dutch lion, a national emblem of the Netherlands, the HUP! graphic - a dutch exclamation equal to the Italian expression FORZA!, styled in a way to resemble the main logo from the famous dutch pro team of the late 80’s/90's, TVM and finally of course the essential inclusion of a vibrant shade of dutch orange!

DOLOMITI STAGE JERSEY

The Queen mountain Stage of this year’s Giro rides over the Dolomites. It will be a pinwheel of breathtaking passes that overlook all the Ladin valleys: Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Campolongo, Giau, Falzarego. Names who made the history of cycling will be done all together for an elevation change of 5,000+ meters on this 210 km-stage. This kit is a tribute to the “Pale Mountains”, specifically drawing attention to the stage finish, proudly highlighted by the inclusion of a chainwheel graphic incorporating a crow, emblematic symbol of Corvara.

COLLE DELL'AGNELLO STAGE JERSEY

Colle dell’Agnello with its m. 2.748 peak is the 2016 Cima Coppi. The surroundings and the high elevation make this climb the most risky of all the mountain stages. On June 1st 1995 during the 19th stage of the Giro (Mondovì-Briançon) was passing along the top of the Agnello when two kilometers before the top, three cars were buried by an avalanche. One of the cars involved was actually Pietro Santini’s! The stage ended in in the city of Pontechianale and Mr. Santini was dug out in a couple of hours. Everything ended well and as you can imagine for us this stage kit was a must! Also included in the design is a subtle little elephant graphic, a nod to Hannibal, one of the greatest generals of antiquity, who, as has been suggested, used the pass to cross the Alps over 2000 years ago.

CHIANTI STAGE JERSEY

A 40.4 kilometre individual time trial will take the riders through the rolling hills and vineyards of the famous winemaking region of Chianti. This is going to be one of the most spectacular stages of the 2016 Giro, both in a technical, riding respect as well as for its breathtaking scenery. With barely a metre of flat road, coming just before the half-way stage, it has the potential to produce sizeable time gaps and significantly affect the overall classification. It deserved a stage kit, don’t you think?!
