RECYCLED FABRICS: ANOTHER GOAL TO SAVE THE PLANET

Working with our suppliers, we hope to produce over 20% of all our products using recycled materials by the end of 2022. To achieve this goal, we have added more and more items to our collections made with Italian-made certified recycled fabrics. Examples include the SLEEK BENGAL family of jerseys from our 2022 summer collection, the Tour de France and La Vuelta leaders jerseys, the UCI rainbow jersey, and Trek Segafredo professional cycling team jerseys. The fabrics used to make these jerseys are both Global Recycled Standard and Oekotex certified, and their use saves 47% energy per ton of yarn and 43% Co2 emissions.

GRANFONDO STELVIO SANTINI

Each year in June, we operate a major cycling event up the Stelvio pass in the Italian Alps. As with all other aspect of our business, we focus on our sustainability goals while putting on the Granfondo Stelvio Santini. The official Santini jersey of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini is constructed using two POLARTEC fabrics made from recycled PET bottles and packed in compostable bags made by TIPA, a company that produces biodegradable packaging for food and clothing use.

With the aim of reducing the single-use packaging and reducing the environmental footprint of our event, we decided to supply all the refreshment areas along the route with non-packaged products. In addition, to prevent the packaging of sports drinks and protein snacks from being dropped on the ground along the race route, we have equipped the jersey with an extra side pocket, specifically designed to hold the waste waiting to be thrown away at the first available 'green area' along the route. We have also positioned many of these 'green areas' along the route, especially near the refreshment areas, giving cyclists the chance to empty their pockets of their rubbish and avoid scattering it in the fantastic Stelvio landscape. Finally, at the pasta party that we organize during the race, we only serve participants using plates, glasses and cutlery made from compostable materials.
