Cycling is continuously evolving. Although Santini is known mostly as a high-performance road brand, our passion for cycling extends way beyond road cycling. Whether your thing is flowing over rolling singletrack, bombing sketchy downhills, racing circuits in frozen fields, or huffing a bicycle loaded with camping gear across miles of empty gravel roads, we want to be your clothing company. Our new off-road collection is the most recent example of our commitment to whatever your cycling ambitions.

Why Did Santini Launch an Off-Road Collection?

Cycling is continuously evolving. Although Santini is known mostly as a high-performance road brand, our passion for cycling extends way beyond road cycling. Whether your thing is flowing over rolling singletrack, bombing sketchy downhills, racing circuits in frozen fields, or huffing a bicycle loaded with camping gear across miles of empty gravel roads, we want to be your clothing company. Our new off-road collection is the most recent example of our commitment to whatever your cycling ambitions.

So we did we create an off-road collection? “The idea for an off-road clothing collection came from the fact that we had customers asking for it,” says company Director Monica Santini. “Customers who were getting more involved in off-road cycling. We already had options for mountain bikers and cyclo-cross riders in our 365 collection. We needed more options for travel and adventure riders.”

The Coronavirus pandemic was a driver as well. “Because of the lockdown, we have a lot of new people getting into bikes. Some are unwilling to go on public transportation, or they want to enjoy some outdoor time rather than risk going to the gym. We felt that these newcomers wouldn’t be used to having that kind of very, very tight Lycra we make for the high-end road cyclist. So the idea was to develop a line that was technical, but purpose-built for off-road riding.”

Tear-Resistant Fabric and Pockets, Pockets, Pockets

The line features a number of innovative ideas to support the adventurous among us. One example is our new GRAVEL bib short. “Because of the increased riding on gravel roads, which can mean longer-distances and adventure touring, we gave the GRAVEL bibs our C3 pad (which has a silicone gel core and is made for ultra-distance) and a ribbed Lycra that doesn’t wear so easily.” The GRAVEL bibs also has large pockets on the thighs and two extra mesh storage pockets on the lower back.

Off-road riding means encounters with a prickly and thorny nature, and loaded hydration packs, so durability is the primary feature of most of the collection. “Even though the fabrics on the SASSO and TERRA jerseys feel very thin, they’re tear resistant. The fabric in the SELVA MTB shorts are also Rip Stop.”

This is our first consolidated off-road collection, but it won’t we our last. “We plan to continue to grow the off-road collection,” Monica Santini says. “We’ll also launch a full customizable version of the line soon so that if you want to create your own design or have your team or shop name printed on this collection, you can do that.”
