LA SWEAT: EMPOWERMENT AND STYLE IN WOMEN'S CYCLING
As we celebrate LA Sweat's impressive milestone of reaching its 10th season in women's cycling, it's an opportune moment to reflect on the remarkable journey of this pioneering team and the extraordinary achievements of its talented riders. Founded by Kelli Samuelson, a passionate advocate for both fashion and cycling, LA Sweat has seamlessly blended these worlds to create a unique and empowering platform for women cyclists. We at Santini Cycling are honored to design their kits and be part of their inspiring story.
How did your team/project start?
LA Sweat began a decade ago with a clear mission: to revolutionize women's cycling by providing opportunities, breaking barriers, and reshaping how the sport is perceived. Founded in Los Angeles, the team initially comprised a majority of riders based in the city. Over the years, however, LA Sweat has expanded to include riders from five countries, embracing a global perspective. This diversity not only enhances cultural exchange but also strengthens the team’s commitment to promoting women's cycling worldwide.
What are the values and mission of your team/project?
At the core of LA Sweat's philosophy is the belief that cycling is for everyone. The team is on a mission to empower women to cut the crap and be unafraid to get out there and ride. In a culture often dominated by power profiles, recovery tights, and carbon bottle cage bolts, LA Sweat reminds us that bikes are fun, riding is fun, and racing is fun. Their mission extends beyond competitive success; it's about building a supportive community for women passionate about the sport and inspiring more women to take up cycling.
How do you think you influence the cycling community?
LA Sweat's influence on the cycling community is profound. By consistently competing at the highest level and making their mark in various races across the globe, they prove that women's cycling deserves a spotlight. Their commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment has resulted in over 50 women joining the team over the past decade, each bringing unique backgrounds and experiences. The team has not only carved out its place in a traditionally male-dominated sport but has also paved the way for a new era in women's cycling.
Through their engagement with the community and presence in national magazines and popular blogs, LA Sweat continues to challenge stereotypes and inspire women to pursue their cycling dreams. The team’s vibrant social media presence, with over 70,000 personal followers, further amplifies their message of empowerment and fun.
What was the inspiration behind the design of your kit? Is there a particular story?
The design of LA Sweat's kit is a reflection of the team's unique identity and vision, championed by founder Kelli Samuelson. Recognizing that style and performance are not mutually exclusive, Kelli has spearheaded a design process that infuses the team's kits with a sense of sophistication and flair. This approach not only reflects Kelli's personal passion for fashion but also serves as a powerful tool for attracting more women to the sport, breaking down barriers and stereotypes in the process.
Each kit is designed with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of comfort and performance. The vibrant colors and bold patterns symbolize the team's dynamic spirit and commitment to making a statement on and off the bike. The kit is a representation of LA Sweat's philosophy that cycling should be enjoyable, stylish, and inclusive.

As LA Sweat enters its second decade, the impact it has had on women's cycling is undeniable. Through a combination of athletic prowess, creative innovation, and unwavering determination, this team continues to inspire riders around the world to pursue their dreams and push the boundaries of what is possible on two wheels.
